Kasemrad Hospital Run for Breath – 5K (Lake That Luang, Vientiane)

Just a week after the Vientiane International Half Marathon, I lined up again—this time with the family for the Kasemrad Hospital Run for Breath 5K.

This one was all about fun. The event allowed registration for any age, which meant the kids were able to get their own shirts, bibs, and medals. They managed a bit of running, but most of it was spent cruising in the stroller. That’s fine by me—it’s about being part of it. Ice creams at the finish line at 7 a.m. sealed the deal as a great morning for them.

The course ended up being short, only 4.3 km, but it didn’t matter. We got a nice family photo at the finish and shared the morning together at Lake That Luang.

To fit it in, I moved my long run to Saturday, so Sunday was just a relaxed effort. Training is still on track for the half-marathon block ahead. If I’d gone all out, I think a sub-20 5K would’ve been within reach, but honestly, I’m glad we did this one as a fun run. On a short course, it would’ve been frustrating to chase a time I couldn’t really claim.

Instead, it was exactly what it needed to be—a fun little local event, a bit of stroller running, and a family morning outing
